January Issue of the Oil&Gas Progress Report

for internal use only

Reinhold H.Bietzker

Dear colleagues,

2006 started really fast and, surprisingly, we already have February. Please find below the first issue of our O&G progress report of 2006.

I would like to deliver useful information on O&G matters and successful applications from somewhere out of the Endress+Hauser world. I would also like to motivate you to participate with information and references of common interest.

Kind regards

Reinhold

Memograph,

a gas company in Germany is using our Memograph S as Gas utility meters. This is a good success for us in the O&G market, the first order is for 37 pieces worth about 100,000 Euros!

This is in addition to Saar Ferngas, Air Liquide in Singapore which are also doing the same and BPCL India , which uses Ecographs for this function.

Gas distribution could be a good market to look at to bundle Flow and Data acquisition!!!!

International Oil&Gas customer instrumentation training

Our course from 19th to 26th March, 2006 found great interest. We have received 40 registrations. Normally we had planned for a maximum of 30. However, we will manage (including the two colleagues from Denmark). It surely will be a very interesting group from around the world and I would like to invite the colleagues from the PCs marketing and R&D to take the opportunity of meeting the group, e.g by joining us during the evening events.

We confirmed the following no. of places:

4 participants from Slovakia

5 participants from Romania

5 participants from Libya

4 participants from Cuba

5 participants from Croatia

2 participants from Israel

2 participants from India

2 participants from Denmark                          (+2 on waiting list)

3 participants from Pakistan

4 participants from Iran

Oil&Gas customer newsletter

Since January 2002 I have been writing regularly, almost every month, a newsletter for our customers. We distribute it via e-mail and are currently working on a more professional appearance than we had in the past. For this reason, we did not manage to send the information out to you as well on the same date. I am sorry about that.

The data base I am using is manually collected and I did not receive any new customer addresses form the sales force for a long time. So, if you feel the information distributed is of value to your customers, please forward me their e-mail addresses. In Excel, or any other way, is just fine.

The newsletter is on our website under:

Every now and then, I have the pleasure of receiving feedback from a customer. The following one came this week from Canada. I actually met Kim in 2003.

"Hi Reinhold,

I've been wanting to mention to you for some time that with all the e-mails I receive (lots), I always look forward to receiving the e-mails and news letters you've sent me.  I have never failed to glean some knowledge about something or another mentioned in the articles and appreciate you keeping me in mind when you send them.

Thanks again and keep up the great work!"

Fieldbus Foundation Receives TÜV Protocol Type Approval for Safety

Instrumented Systems Specification by John.Salusbury@holding.endress.com

The Fieldbus Foundation announced that TÜV Anlagentechnik  GmbH, Automation, Software and Information Technology, a global, independent and accredited testing agency, has granted Protocol Type Approval for the Fieldbus Foundation Safety Instrumented Systems specifications.  The specifications are in compliance with International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 61508 standard (functional safety of electrical/electronic/programmable electronic safety-related systems) requirements up to, and including, Safety Integrity Level 3 (SIL 3).

With the TÜV Protocol Type Approval, FOUNDATION fieldbus technology has been extended to provide a comprehensive solution for Safety Instrumented Systems in a wide range of industrial plant applications.  The specifications enable manufacturers to build FOUNDATION fieldbus devices in compliance with IEC 61508.  Third-party test agencies such as TÜV will certify that these devices are suitable for use in safety instrumented systems.  End users will be able to choose devices meeting the requirements

of IEC 61511 (functional safety: safety instrumented systems for the process industry sector) from multiple suppliers, instead of being restricted to devices designed specifically for a proprietary safety system platform.  IEC 61511 is also available as an ANSI/ISA Standard: ANSI/ISA-84.00.01-2004.

Asish Ghosh, ARC Advisory Group, commented, "TUV's protocol type approval for the Fieldbus Foundation SIS specification will allow end users to choose internationally certified systems from multiple suppliers that comply with the IEC 61508 and 61511 standards.  The end user will no longer be restricted to proprietary or industry standard protocols such as SafetyBUS p or Profisafe.  However, as the H1 level solution limits the

communication speed to and from field devices, users need to take into account the Fieldbus loading at the design stage."

Latest from SPSE

In week 50 to 52 in 2005 and the first week in January this year, Ton Leenhoven and his team were again calibrating 10” Promass at  Societe du Pipeline Sud-Europeen in France. For the first time they calibrated a coriolis bi-directional and in a tandem set-up. The results were just overwhelmingly good.

An inspector of NMi was present and, since January 2006, Endress+Hauser achieved approval for bi-directional calibrations of Coriolis type massflow meters by NMi for custody transfer applications.

Further more, the tandem set-up, two 10” Promass in parallel connected by a Y-joint showed flowrates of about 400,000 BOPD (barrel oil per day).

For transfer metering stations we surely can state now:

Please keep in mind:

The Endress+Hauser Coriolis Promass F combines the accuracy of a PD meter with the repeatability of a turbine. Additionally, it has no moving parts and a much, much broader operation window compared to an ultrasonic flow meter. Beyond this, the Coriolis is independent of viscosity changes and does not require regular validation by a prover during a batch.

Saudi Arabia visit

In January a large Endress+Hauser delegation travelled to Saudi Arabia to celebrate the first decade of partnership with our representation Anasia. The team headed by Klaus Endress, included Helmut Wache, Jochen Koetzle, Ton Leenhoven, Peter Tschabold and myself.

After a warm reception visit in the domicile of Sheik Anas Abudawood, CEO of the Abudawood Group, in Jeddah we all travelled to Dammam to hold a celebration and technical presentations at the Sheraton hotel.

Under the patronage of his Excellency the Ambassador Dr. Gerhard Enver Schroebgens and the presence of many customers, Klaus Endress presented Endress+Hauser and our ambition for further growth. Atef Fahmy, GM of Anasia and Mohamed Taha, Division Manager of the Anasia presented the many success stories and applications already realized in Saudi Arabia. To mention one, the water supply to the holy mosque of Mecca is controlled entirely by Endress+Hauser.

Saudi Aramco was very much impressed and invited us for further co-operation. Hopefully we have a foot in the door of this very interesting customer.

Promass 10"

Our strong delegation found as much interest and respect as the exhibited demo model of the 10” Promass. Since the model was too heavy for the marble stair case of the Sheraton, the hotel organized a nice looking oriental tent and placed it right in front of the hotel entrance for maximum attention.

After all, a tent with carpets is the appropriate housing in Saudi Arabia.

Thanks to Sheik Anas Abudawood and his team for their good organization and the warm welcome we received.
